ARTIST QUESTIONNAIRE: Killing Sinatra

Your DJ debut:

There was this event called 'Plikser' at Suhkrumoll in 2017.

Your first influencers / idols:

I've had a lot of them surrounding me. You could say that the whole Estonian scene has had an influence on me. I haven't always been so keen to drum and bass as I am now. I've been through all kinds of genres, but now I feel like this is the one that is the most cherished to me, thanks to the parties and artists that re-introduced me to it.

What attracts you to DnB music?

I like everything about it. This music has such a strong energy and it's so comprehensive that it has a song for every mood.

What kind of drum'n'bass are you mainly playing in your DJ sets?

Mostly kind of dark and abstract, sometimes with a melancholic vibe. And jungle with a gloomy mood. From time to time with jungle the key word is tribal. I feel that my sets work best for the crowd when I do my homework. I carefully choose which tracks belong to which set, that together they create a story of their own. But sometimes (rarely) I have this mood to go without any particular preparation, something completely new and different comes out of it.

The most played top3 DnB artists or tracks by you:

I have this quirk that I just have to prepare new tracks for every party. I devote a lot of my free time to listening to music, thanks to that I find a lot of fresh tunes. There is so much new music put out all the time, I think it is a sin to keep playing the same tracks over and over. I do have my favorites, but I don't feel the urge to play them every time I'm DJing. Maybe after a while. There are some repeating names I could point out: Detoxic, One87, Glÿph.

What should a promoter consider when inviting you to play?

It's essential that the equipment is in good condition. Would be nice if the promoter was up to date what kind of music I play.

What should definitely be in your artist's rider?

I'm not high-maintenance at all. There should be some drinks and water.

The best / most memorable parties you've played at:

Well, every 'Džungel' outing has been awesome. I like when the visual side of the party has also been given attention. 'Boat Party: Liquid Session' was also unforgettable, because it was happening at sea. And from 2019 this event 'Northern Basslines' comes to mind, I was really into this northern lights theme. And although there were only a few people present, the party was kind of a breaking point for me because I realized for the first time that I have reached a point where I knew exactly what I was doing and in which direction I wanted to move forward to. Because of that I will always remember that set.

The weirdest song request you've been asked during a DJ set:

I can't really recall any specific song but I guess "put on something good" has been asked from every DJ.

Interesting fan experience:

It seems that I haven't been doing this long enough to have very intriguing fan experiences.

What makes a DJ a good DJ?

In my opinion impeccable taste, ability to read your crowd and versatility. And of course technical skills.

The best advice you have received as a DJ:

Don't perform at a party unless you're really confident about yourself. This is a common mistake I've witnessed too often in the scene the past few years and in some way also experienced myself. Your set won't be good this way and in my opinion this will leave a bitter taste for a long time. Practice really makes perfect. 🙂

Who would you like to collaborate with and / or play b2b in the future?

I haven't really thought about that. So far, there have only been a few people with whom b2b turned out to be good because of the same vibe and I'd like to play together with again. For some reason, I mostly prefer to play my sets alone.
